Last night we decided we would try out the Momofuku Wedding Cake sample kit so we can finally order the cake for our wedding, which is around the corner. Over the past two years we have pretty much made it a ritual of bringing their cakes to every birthday party we attend, something about the cakes makes even the most boring parties seem tolerable. We have had everything from Birthday Cake, Chocolate Malt Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Apple Pie (which is one of the best things I have ever had)… We also bought my two little cousins classes at Milkbar to teach them, and my fiancé, hienz make their cakes and truffles (Read My Article, it was the best idea ever).
So we bought three of their sampler packs ($25/each) and we invited over some family to help make the decision. The package comes with 12 flavors, which included: apple pie cake, banana cake, birthday cake, chocolate malt cake, chocolate chip cake, german chocolate jimbo cake, dulce de leche cake, mint cookies n’ cream cake, pineapple upside down cake, pistachio cake, pretzel cake, strawberry-lemon cake. Below are some of our favorites, which I think you should try either for a wedding cake – or their 6″ and 10″ cakes.
pretzel cake: malted pretzel crumbs, stout ganache, burnt honey frosting.
pistachio cake: lemon curd, pistachio frosting, milk crumbs.
pineapple upside down: coconut cake, pineapple upside down frosting, yellow cake crumbs, cherry-buttermilk soak.
banana cake: banana cream, hazelnut crunch, gianduja fudge.
apple pie cake: cheesecake filling, apple compote, pie crumbs.
lemon cheesecake, pickled strawberry jam, milk crumbs.
